About

Elias considers that collegiality is one of the hallmarks of the legal profession and mentoring and supporting lawyers along their journey is critical to maintaining the relevance and importance of the profession.

To that end, Elias has been an active participant in many initiatives aimed at strengthening the profession. Elias has been a member of the Law Society’s Litigation Law & Practice Committee for 10 years, serving in the positions of Vice-Chair for 3 years and currently as the Chair. Prior to that, Elias was actively involved in the work of NSW Young Lawyers and served as the President of NSW Young Lawyers in 2015.

Elias was proud to have been involved in the creation of an invaluable resource, Being Well in the Law, which was a first of a kind guide that provided a tool kit for lawyers to stay well in the law. Being Well in the Law was developed in conjunction with the Australian National University. Elias is passionate about assisting business, of all sizes and structures, to resolve commercial disputes whether through the civil court system or by using alternative dispute resolution methods.

During his 17 years in practice, Elias has worked for boutique and mid-tier legal practices. In 2017, Elias set up a boutique commercial litigation and dispute resolution practice in the Sydney CBD.

As we navigate our way through the pandemic, a key issue is supporting lawyers to make practice easier for all lawyers. Elias considers that the Law Society is well placed to lead the profession by tailoring its services to assist lawyers to implement innovative ways of doing business and providing lawyers support professionally and personally to emerge stronger from the pandemic.

Elias's Priorities:

  1. Advocating for accessibility to courts and access to justice particularly when virtual courts are used.
  2. Ensuring that all lawyers have access to up-to-date resources to remain at the forefront of the use of technology in their practice areas to make practice easier.
  3. Assisting lawyers to build resilience whether working from home or the office.
  4. Strengthening collegiality so that the legal profession remains diverse including supporting diversity in key management and leadership positions.
  5. Maintaining the Law Society’s relevance to the legal profession and increasing tailored member services to make practice easier.
