About

Ronan is a government solicitor living and working in Sydney and a current councillor of the Law Society. His practice as Deputy General Counsel – Construction & Projects at Transport for NSW has seen him advising on infrastructure projects throughout metropolitan Sydney and regional NSW, as well working on policy development in his areas of practice. Prior to joining the NSW Public Service, Ronan worked as an in-house lawyer at an ASX top-50 listed company and prior to that in private practice.

Ronan is the current Chair of both the Law Society’s Government Solicitors Committee and its Diversity & Inclusion Committee, where he has helped to lead a number of important initiatives aimed at building a more inclusive profession. This includes the recent renewal of the Law Society’s Charter for the Advancement of Women in the Legal Profession and the publication of the Law Society’s Workplace Guide and Model Discrimination and Harassment Policies. He has also served as a member of the Professional Conduct Committee.

A key issue facing our profession is how to support practitioner colleagues both personally and professionally in recovering from the pandemic. Ronan believes there is an opportunity here for the Law Society to make practice easier for practitioners by improving the services the Law Society offers to its members at different stages of our careers, while continuing the excellent work that has been done in recent years in the area of mental health and wellbeing, with initiatives such as the Solicitors Outreach Service.

Ronan's Priorities:

  1. Helping lawyers recover from the pandemic professionally and personally by making practice easier.
  2. Maintaining the Law Society’s relevance to its members by tailoring member services to meet our diverse needs at different stages of our careers.
  3. Attracting and retaining the best lawyers into the profession by promoting a culture of respect and inclusion.
  4. Enhancing the reputation of the profession by highlighting the positive contribution that our profession makes to society and thereby supporting the retention of traditional areas of legal work for lawyers.
  5. Providing practical support around supervision of junior lawyers and supporting their supervisors so that high standards of practice are maintained throughout the profession.
